I like Square shape videos when I'm watching the Youtube videos in Full Screen since there are no black bars at the bottum or sides, but if I'm watching a video in non-full screen I prefer widescreen because it does not have black bars on the sides in non-full screen mode.
I wish Youtube made a square version of their video player available since Square shape videos has verticle black bars on the Left and right of the screen for Square shape videos. It is like Youtube want more people to upload widescreen videos, but most digital cameras which record videos record video as square shape.
