Do you purchase your anime or do you watch online?

At least 2 decades ago, there was no possibility for fans to watch anime without importing anime either on VHS or Laserdisc (LD). Sure, there would always be a few anime shows on television but these were few and far in-between. Western fans had little choice but to dig deep into their pockets and track down importers and distributors for the hottest new anime shows.

Nowadays things have changed considerably, and for the better. It's never been easier to get hold of anime on DVD and Blu-Ray. Prices are also a lot more reasonable than what I was accustomed to paying back in the day. But one no longer needs to purchase anime to watch the latest shows, the internet gives us access to many more shows that we even have time for.

How do you go about watching anime, do you buy DVDs/Blu-Rays or do you stream from online sources?

I watch them online. I like to save money, and watch new animes. I don't want to buy an anime, and then not enjoy it.

I watch Anime on UnderAnime. After I become attached to a series (DBZ the prime example), I buy DVD's and Manga. If I like the series, there's no harm in getting stuff that I'll always be able to use in the future. It helps out the creators and, I guess, shows my support!

I watch them online now.  I used to buy them, but it kind of got expensive to do especially if the anime was a long series with each DVD containing only 6 episodes.  It was sometimes hard to find the DVDs too.  Some of the anime I bought are incomplete because I couldn't find the DVDs I was missing.  Besides, it's easier to find anime online and it's free too that is until they're removed because the website is reported.  That isn't usually a problem, but with some shows it's difficult to find.

I usually watch anime online through official means, since they're usually free and support the original work albeit slightly.  I guess I've never loved anime enough to where I'd re-watch any given series enough to warrant buying a DVD or Bluray, so I've mostly stuck to streaming.

I buy what I will like on dvd to watch perfectly on my large sized tv, otherwise I stream the rest free online.

I think if I wanted to, I would most likely do it online because it's much easier than actually having the pain of purchasing it. The thing is, people who upload it online could be the ones held accountable for it and not the people who watch it because YouTube is a legal website, people who upload illegal content on it make YouTube accountable for not deleting or removing it, so the viewers would not be held accountable for it as much as I know. I would love someone to correct me on this if I'm wrong.

I normally download them. However, I also normally delete the majority of them after the first two to three episodes since many of them truly are not up to par with my tastes. For the ones I do keep, I make a wishlist to buy them when I get the chance to. For example, after I downloaded and watched the Ichigo Mashimaro anime, I bought the entire series, plus the two OVA's on DVD.

Yea anime is scarce on YouTube because of that. I kinda miss watching anime on my Nokia 5800 using YouTube LOL. Was painful to watch but it was the only method I had while my shared PC was occupied. But there are other websites anyway. Nobody uploads full episodes on YouTube anymore, it's become too difficult to do.

Anyway, as for me, I always download online then watch. I currently have over 250 GB of anime, mostly unwatched because I delete what I watched to save space for new ones.

I tend to stream it and if I like it I'll download the series to watch at my lesuire. I'll also buy it on DVD so I can watch it on the TV and just so that I've got it. I was gonna buy the Azumanga series again on DVD but can't find it anymore. I used to have the DVD boxset but lost it after I moved.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone!  :yahoo:

It's good to know in what manner anime fans are consuming their favorite shows. I must admit, that while I've bought tons of DVD's and Blu-Rays over the years, I also tend to watch plenty of anime online. It's both more convenient and of course way more affordable. In this economy everyone is trying to save money. And since anime is not a necessity, it just happens to be one of those things we can easily cut out from our monthly budget.
