Do you still use older video connectors like VGA and DVI on your desktop or laptop PC?

Yes, I still use older video connectors like VGA and DVI to connect my PC or laptop to a monitor or TV with VGA and DVI ports.

My old PC monitors at home only have VGA and DVI video ports, and no HDMI or DisplayPort like newer monitors.

my screen still uses VGA since its like 10 years old. Though I do wonder, is there a difference in quality with VGA and HDMI?

I think there is not a huge difference since I use a monitor which has DVI which is digital like HDMI, but DVI does not transmit audio like HDMI, and I also use its VGA port. The picture quality of VGA, DVI and HDMI looks very similar in my experience.

The main difference is resolution. I have a 19" monitor that connects via DVI. The max rez it supports is 1280x1024. But newer widescreen LCD/LED monitors can to 1920x1080 (HD) or even Ultra HD via HDMI and yes, you should notice a difference.

ahh, that makes sense.

I want to get a 4k Ultra HD "Quantum Dot" monitor.

I think HDMI and DVI are very similar. I read posts on forums which says HDMI and DVI are both digital, but DVI video port shape is different, and DVI does not transmit audio like HDMI which can transmit audio, and have a different plug shape. I have a HDMI to DVI cable to plug-in my Raspberry Pi 2 mini PC to an older LCD monitor which only has VGA and DVI ports. The video quality is clear and sharp like HDMI TVs and HDMI monitors I used.

DVI can display 4K resolution on a monitor set to a refresh rate at 30Hz. If you want the monitor picture refresh rate to be set at 60 Hz, you need to use a PC and monitor with two Dual-link cables and ports to display 4K at 60 Hz on a monitor according to Can Dual Link DVI do 4K at 60Hz? .

DVI probably won't officially support 6-8K resolution in the future because most people will have switch to HDMI.

Coolness. 8K?

hahaha I still run in 1280x1024

hehehe I'd like an HD monitor. I want an LED super high contrast one. I saw one for like $160. Not bad!

Agreed! I think it's 22" HD as well. Very nice!
