Yes, I think desktop computers is making a comeback because of cheaper Gaming Desktop computers which are as affordable as game consoles since you can buy or build a good desktop computer for $500 or less which can play games like Minecraft, Counter Strike, Half-Life, Call of Duty, Warcraft, Starcraft, and many other games on medium to medium-high video settings.

A $500 Desktop computer can also do more things than an Xbox One and other consoles which forces users to use apps and games which the console maker approves of.

Plus, a lot of people these days are not leaving home as often because they take online courses or work from home where a cheaper, faster, reliable and easier to maintain desktop make more sense than an expensive laptop like an Apple Macbook Pro which could be as good as a desktop, but cost more, and is harder to maintain in the long run.

A desktop computer is the best type of computer for surfing the web because it usually uses a Wired connection which is usually faster, and more reliable than a laptop computer's wireless connection. Desktops also are more comfortable to use because of full size keyboard and mouse, a bigger and brighter monitor, and better speaker sound quality. Desktops also don't overheat, and break as often in my experience compared to laptops which don't seem to last as long, or overheat more based on stories I read online, and my own experience. If desktops break, I can usually replace one part very quickly in a few minutes to fix it unlike laptops with the many screws, wires, and connectors which make replacing some parts more difficult.

I read Valve/Steam would have 12 companies like iBuypower, CyberpowerPC, Digital Storm, etc which would make Steam Machine Desktop computers with the Steam OS installed on it. The Steam Machine would most likely cost a little less money because Steam OS is free while the Windows OS like 8.1 or 8.1 Pro cost $99-199 for one license to use Windows on a PC.

The Steam Machines may also lead to people building or buying their own Gaming Desktop computers to install Steam OS onto, or using a computer they already own to install Steam OS.

A desktop PC is also better for recording gameplay video from a game console with a Game Recorder box because of the cheap price of 3TB hard drives which can be bought for $100 or less.

Free video editing tools like Windows Live Movie Maker are generally good enough for adding subtitles, title screens, editing out bloppers, loading screens, and other unwanted video clips before uploading to YouTube, and other video sites. The graphics cards on  Gaming desktop PCs are usually faster than most laptops, so using them for video editing is better.

If the steam machine takes off desk top gaming will lag a bit. But I'm not sure if PCs are making a come back.

Steam Machines are desktops with Steam OS which use a controller for gaming if the gamer choose not to use keyboard, and mouse which the Steam Machines also supports because Steam OS is based on Linux which uses Keyboard and mouse for controlling the computer.

I think Windows PC are not rising anymore, and Linux, Steam OS, and Mac are rising slowly, and steadly until they eventually become the most used OSes on desktops like how the most used tablet is the iPads in the US because it steadly convinced many buyers that the iPads are better than Windows, Android, and other tablet brands.

I agree, most public computer at libraries, schools, and internet cafe are desktop computers since laptops get stolen more easily, and desktops are cheaper to buy, upgrade, and repair. The desktop is also the most affordable gaming computer device because you do not need to buy a screen, mouse, keyboard, and speakers when you buy a desktop, and can continue using the screen, keyboard, and mouse  you already own unlike laptops, and some tablets where you need to buy a new screen, keyboard, speakers, and mouse because they are built-into the computer.
