Yes, I think fewer people are paying for online storage these days since there are plenty of free alternative online storage accounts like Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft Skydrive, Apple iCloud, MediaFire, Sugar Sync, Box.net, Evernote, and more which are good enough to backup your homework, photo, program installer files, and short video files. Plus, most files like installer files, music videos on YouTube, NetFlix videos, and streaming music can also be downloaded or streamed easily via the internet, so people don't bother saving them to their computer other computers, or drive since they can just open Netflix and watch the movie as many times they want on Netflix website.

Plus, more people are storing their photos on free sites like Google Plus, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, forums, blog, and other social networks to share and comment on other people's artwork, videos and photos.
 
I just use my hosting as part file hosting. works fine with me.
