Yes, I think making plug-ins, add-ons, extensions, and modifications for software has more opportunities and can be more lucrative for the average programmer/coder since many people don't like learning or trust new software, but they are willing to install an add-on, or extensions on to their programs they normally use like Word, Excel, Firefox, IE, Games, etc which someone is selling for a cheap price or supported through donations, and website ads.

I think that they are lucrative just as long as adding all of them wouldn't affect the performance of the program.. because if that is the case, and you discover that an overwhelming majority of people use a particular plugin, then it might be for the best that you just cut out the middleman and add the plugin as a feature into the software, and give those using it the option to turn it off if they choose to do so.

In most cases, I notice plugins to not lag my browser or progrsm. http://www.mywot.com/ is a great plugin for IE, Chrome, and Firefox. It tells the user if the website is safe or not, and let the internet community rate a website for safety, and usefulness.

I think one of the major reasons why so many people moved on to other browsers instead of IE is because of the masive amount of themes, extensions, and plugins available for the browser like FF or Google Chrome. I notice even when I load Google Chrome up with plugins. It is still faster then IE in most cases.

I am the kind of person who will use a browser simply because it would have the features that I would need and without having to add a bunch of plugins..

For example, Opera has the speed dial feature, with the first 9 being accessible by pressing CTRL + 1-9 depending on what page you want to open. I have not seen such a feature for Firefox, and I am pretty sure that to get it, you'd have to have some kind of plugin to do it.

I am the same way with things outside of the computer such as my forum. I have been on more hosts than you can imagine, and each one I left, had more features than the one before. I always chose a host that had more than the one I was currently on, and that I didn't need to use a whole bunch of codes for. I left PB because a lot of the features I wanted, was already standard with IF. I left IF for a lot of the same reason in addition to the fact that ZB was a disappointment, and I wanted a host that had the features I wanted in ZB, but was still IPB based.. and so, I made the decision to move my forum to JFB, and it has been great.
