I've seen a debate going around where people do not view Social (Facebook type games) and mobile games as actual video games and don't think they deserve that title.
Do you think they are video games?
I say yes, they may not be a AAA type game but they remind me of games of the good old days and more than deserve the title video games.
Well if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck...
I feel that they are and appreciate that they are they're own separate industry and mind set.
Casual gaming requires a different approach to production and execution than full scale serious games, requiring or necessitating a lack of a plot line.
I've seen a handful of older games on the handheld market--the first few Final Fantasy games and some of the Pokemon games, for example--I feel that they're the exception to the rule. More of an excuse to show of the porting potential and graphic capabilities of the device.
Yes, I feel they are video games since people look at a screen with video on it to play a game. Plus, some mobile and Facebook type games are getting pretty advance where you can use a wireless controller, and the games have 3D and HD graphics which are comparable to previous generations of PC Games, and console games.
Dungeon Hunter 4, CSR Racing, Asphalt 8, and Dead Trigger 1-2 are examples of more advance games for the mobile platform.
Of course they're video games. For a different market, but yes they are still games.
I used to play this Aquarium game on Facebook where you had an aquarium and you earned money some how which you could spend on decorations for your fish tank and new fish etc. I think you played mini games to earn money. It was cool. I tried Farmville back in the day but that didn't last long.
I think I used to play a Fish tank game where I can buy fish, and decorate my tank as well called Fishville. It was an okay game .
I think more game makers are releasing their games to Facebook because there are a lot of people who are gamers on Facebook because most people have a Facebook account which they use for keeping in touch or updated with friends and family, famous people, and co-workers and their employer. Plus, Facebook probably makes it easier for game makers to make money from ads, and in-game purchases because there are a lot of people who click on ads on Facebook, and buy in-game items if they like the game.
Some of the Unity Games, and newer flash games look almost as good as some PC and console games.
A lot of mobile and Facebook games start out easy, but after a few levels they get very hard where you need to think more to beat levels, try again, or search for help online. Some games make some people spend money on better weapons, characters, and items like extra lives to beat a level.
