Do you think one day Call of Duty will lose its popularity a fair bit?

Like so many other popular series out at the moment?

I suspect it might. After all, we all know what happens to popular series which get games on a extremely regular basis, they tend to burn out and get a bit tiring for the gaming population. Like Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Or various others (sadly, even Mega Man to be honest).

Additionally, you have to keep in mind that with such regular release dates and people generally moving on the minute a new game is released, some people are arguably getting burnt out by it, because they constantly have to learn a whole bunch more skills/updated engine/whatever before they've really had the chance to fully master or enjoy the older one. Indeed, I've heard stories of people packing it in simply because things like their prestige feel too short lived, and they don't want to constantly start from zero every year.

But what do you think? Is there a chance Call of Duty could be hit badly in terms of popularity soon?

cod ghosts game play and maps and skill sets annoyed me but BO/ BO2 where well rounded. if the older games like codwaw were not hacked to death i would still play it to this day. it is truly a preference i am a god at FPS "all cod games i have over a 2.6+ KD,, but even then.. i want to play BF4 do to how it feels a little more like WAR with big maps and a lot of mayhem. in the COD games the worst you get is some ppl get a helicopter that dies in 2 shots.. also with two game dev. fighting over COD they are ruining it by putting out fast games and sad maps.. but i hope i pray that they fix them self's and end up winning over my heart again... GET RID OF THE CARTOON GRAPHICS! we freaking glow WTF IS THAT? .. happy holidays

Well, you picked a prime example and a topic something Raithgar and I often discuss.

Funny how you used Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk for the examples... Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk are all owned by Activision and Activision is solely responsible for killing off Guitar Hero as well as Tony Hawk. They were making too many games in the series too fast. You ever heard of that expression "too much of a good thing"? It applies here. Consumers were losing interest because of how close the releases were. They did it with Guitar Hero, then Tony Hawk, and now with Call of Duty as well. They also pushed that stupid board for Tony Hawk and not games like Singularity which they dumped a LOT of R&D into but never any marketing.

I love most of the Call of Duty games and spend months on each one - especially the ones TreyArch makes, but I won't care if it dies off. I just want that control scheme to be the base example for all FPS games to follow, as it has been for a lot of other developers already.

I do not feel that the hypse for Call of Duty games will ever die down. I noticed a trend that goes on whenever a new game is released. Leading up to the release of a new game people are obviously excited for it, Excited enough to wait hours on line just to get one of the first copies at midnight. Normally within just a few hours those same people begin to hate the game just because it is a little bit different than the last one. After talking trash about the newest installment majority of the people will begin to play the previous cod game that came before, In Ghosts case a lot of people claim that Black Ops II is so much better and began to talk about how great it is and how much better it is. It is safe to assume that whatever comes after ghosts will make Ghosts much more popular. lol

Oh god i know so many people who do this lmfao xD

I don't think the Call of Duty series will ever die. Even if released every year and have the same old concept, a lot of players and professional players will play because of Major League Gaming tournaments. Especially since it is about 3-4 times of year in the game cycle, at the least 10,000-100,000 is still a lot of money, especially for just playing a game and they can potentially influence people to take another view at the game. I noticed the trend too when Black Ops 1 came out, people went back to play Modern Warfare 2 and bashed Black Ops 1.

Call of Duty is trending down, like Mario Claus said Activision rides their IPs into the ground. They milk them for every last buck they can before jumping to something else. In this case they already have Skylanders lined up behind Call of Duty.

With Call of Duty: Ghosts now launched on Xbox One and PS4 as well as last-gen consoles, market analysis firm Cowen & Company has said that sales of the first-person shooter are down 19% compared to last years entry Black Ops 2. Activision has previously said that it expected a drop in sales due to the transition to next-gen consoles, but Doug Creutz believes that Activion should be concerned over the drop in sales.

“Upon further reflection, we think the [Call of Duty] numbers are a bit more troubling than they first appeared, While the year-over-year gap is only 19 percent thus far, that includes two extra weeks of sales for the 360 and PS3 versions [of Black Ops II]. Against 2011′s [Modern Warfare 3], where the difference is only one week, the title is down 32 percent life-to-date.”

Creutz added, “We don’t think it is out of the question that the title could wind up comparing down 20 percent to 25 percent year-over-year [to Black Ops II], which is appreciably worse than the down 10 to 15 percent that we think is baked in to guidance.”

duh they make them too fast. one company sucks at it "cough ghosts cough" one rocks " BO BO2" there is no happy medium. you can not have two companys fightign over the same game name they both will ruin it.

I'm not understanding the hate for Ghosts. I enjoy it much more than i did Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2.

Don't get me wrong you can like it if you want but my dislikes are, VERY bad point system that does not allow you to go all stealth if you want. EVERYONE GLOWS, i have played every COD i have a 2.6+ with 100K++ kills in every COD game.. this is the brightest i have EVER seen players and it is VERY hard to blend into ANYTHING and hide if you wanted... i do like SOME OF the maps.. but not much. and now for aim assist. even if i turn it off in the main menu it still seems to move my gun in multiplayer.. yeah i HATE when games move my site ..

I can see how the point system would take some getting use to. I wanted one of my characters to be a relentless speedster but i can not unlock the perks required until level 20+. I notice my character moving sight when i randomly run by a person i do not notice. I use it as an alarm "oh there's someone near-- Boom*" I normally die before i can see the person nearby haha.

i do think that COD is losing popularity because most of my friends stopped playing because they think that its the same thing all the time and when they play online they get cussed out or something.

The day it dies will be a glorious day for Nintendo, and a horrible day for everyone else.
