Do you think smartphones, and tablets will soon have as much hard drive space as a laptop or desktop

Yes, I think most Tablets, and Smartphones will have as much storage space as laptops which usually have 100s of GBs of storage, or more since people want more then a few GBs of space on their devices, or don't want to buy a seperate MicroSD card to add more storage to a Tablet or phone.

The Archos 70 Google Android tablet and other tablets already have 250GBs of space on a mechanical hard drive. I think when Windows 8 comes out there will most likely be more Windows Tablets and phones with 100s of GBs of space like on a PC.

I think the main reason that most Tablet makers make Tablets with more memory/storage more expensive is that they use expensive non-moving Flash memory like SSD, SD card, and chips instead of mechanical hard drives which are cheaper because mechanical drives are cheaper to make.

When Windows 8 Pro Tablets comes out, I think PC makers like Dell and HP will use mechanical hard drives instead of SSD since Windows 8 Pro and all the bundle software like Antivirus, Office Suites, Video editors, Trial ware, etc will need 30-40+ GB or more of space, so a cheaper higher storage mechanical hard drive like 250-500GB will be cheaper then a lower storage memory 64GB SSD/SD memory card drive. Plus, people who use Windows usually store all their files, games, programs, etc on one drive, so they probably care more about storage then super fast performance from a SSD.

Archos currently makes a Tablet with a 250GB mechanical hard drive with Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich , 8 inch screen, 1.5 GHz CPU, 1GB RAM Tablet selling for 268 US dollars at http://www.amazon.co...g=johsgamsto-20 , so I think more Google Android Tablet makers will add more storage to their devices by switching to higher storage mechanical drives to compete better with the Google Nexus 7 Tablet, and Amazon Kindle Fire which make up most of the sales for Google Android Tablets. Plus, Windows 8 will also take more sales away from Google Android, so Tablet makers need to offer more reasons like more storage to buy Droid tablets.

But, I feel Apple will most likely continue to sell their tablets with more space for very high prices since a lot of their costumers will pay high prices then switch to another brand like Windows with more space.

nah, they want to sell storage on the "cloud."

lots of devices that should easily have some kind of extendable storage, like an SD card simply don't. There's really no reason for this...

Good point, I also believe companies want to sell storage in the Cloud like Apple iCloud, Google's Google Drive/Gmail, and Microsoft's SkyDrive are ways for getting people to use online Storage which can be more profitable for MS, Apple, and Google since you have to pay monthly fees for more storage, bandwidth, features, and better service if you don't want to use the free cloud storage version which only gives you 5GB or less space, and possibly bandwidth limits if you overuse the service.

I agree there is no reason for this since the tech from the iPod classic, MS Zune, Creative Zen, with the small mechanical hard drive with 80-160s GBs of storage already exists, and has been in use for a couple of years now, and adding expandable storage like a SD card reader isn't hard to put on devices.

I believe it will happen one day. hopefully it won't cost too much.

I also think it will happen one day, and because companies want to add more space to Tablets, and Smartphones, so users will have more space to buy more Apps, movies, music, eBooks, DLC, and other digital content from Apple, MS, and Google because they have more space on their hard drive on their Tablet or phone to store their paid files and apps they bought from the store. Giving people more space can mean more money for Apple, MS, Google if the buyer also use the space to pay to download apps, movies, and DLC.

Most likely More Windows 8 Pro tablets will have a lot of space since Microsoft Office 2013, Photoshop, Video editors, Web Browsers, Antivirus, and other Windows software would need a lot of space to be installed on a Tablet. Windows users also loves their programs, games, and enjoy using feature rich software which can do everything.
