Yes if the company makes software that people are willing to pay for, or donate to.

However, a lot of people these days believe that freeware, pirated software, discount and open source software will increase competition for paid software which make it harder for people to make a living out of software.

But, I think corporate buyers will still keep using paid software like MS Office since a lot of people still do not know how to use Sun Open Office, or IBM Lotus Symphony.
 
ehhh I doubt it is stable, usually if there is anything good that you can pay for there is something better you can get for free.

I agree there are a lot of software that cost a lot like Photoshop, but it is not really worth it for the average joe.

A lot of people are switching to free products like Gimp, or Paint.net instead of buying Photoshop.
