Yes, I think Bluetooth, Infrared, FM, AM, Cellular, HAM radio waves and other short distance wireless technology can be cheap or free alternatives to sharing files with friends across town in the future or now. People just need to make apps for it to be easy to use.

Cell phones already have this tech built-in to use your cellular reception signal to send pictures, videos, text, files and other info over the cellular phone network by using phone numbers instead of IP.
 
Good point on the cell phones, it could give the radio airwaves a new life.
