I have an account at http://www.linkedin.com/ , but I never actively used it. But, it has some good groups if you want to meet people who are also in your line of work, or finding job listings and employers who might hire you for a job you are interested in like web design, television, etc.
It also might be bosses looking for employees which are more skilled since finding skilled and experience staff from the same town can be hard, and most of the geeks and nerds spend their time on the internet, so it might be easier to recruit skilled worker where skilled workers hang out online.
