I usually just remove my flash drives when I'm not using them, and put them back in my pocket since I'm less likely to lose them, and I don't like how warm they get after being plugged in for a few minutes or hours.

I do both, but on 2 separate drives.. I have one for my forum's back ups only and the other is for everything else..
