With PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) getting more and more popular, the number of people playing the game is increasing by the thousands. Just recently, PUBG hit a record of 400 million worldwide players. Now, as amazing as it is, this rapid growth has led to an increase in the number of hacks and cheats being used in the game which has left the community desperately asking for the developers to introduce in features like PUBG Region Lock.

According to most players, it seems most of the hacks and cheats are emerging from the Chinese region. Now, this has led to the community to get enraged resulting in numerous demands for a PUBG China Region Lock, if not for a better anti-cheat engine.

Where do you stand on this issue?

I feel Region locking can be a good way to prevent hacking and cheating from spreading all over the world, and make people in other countries from getting hacked or cheated while playing the game.

That's how I see it too. Although it is counter productive to the online diversity, but in case of PUBG being infested with chinese hackers, region lock seems like a lesser (necessary) evil.

The problems with region locking debate with any game:
Region lock → "fucking have to wait for this game to come in my country while everyone else is already playing, DEATH TO REGION LOCKING!!!".
Region free → "soooooo fucking much lag in this game, I DEMAND REGION LOCKING!!!".

Of course you can put multiple servers for people to choose from, but the problem is that when a certain country has lots of players, they'd end up playing in other servers because theirs is too slow (or they just want to play with people from far away countries).
It's possible to make all servers join forces into a single super server, but then you'd get lots of lag caused at the server side instead of client side.

Then there's the issue that most European and east Asian countries have way faster internet speeds than anyone else, which results in terrible lag if for example someone from Washington DC (USA) would connect to a server in Tokyo (Japan), or someone from Amsterdam (Netherlands) would connect to a server in Canberra (Australia).

PUBG may have to shutdown the servers if too many user switch to other games like Fortnite because it is no longer enjoyable because of hackers and cheaters. I bet, PUBG needs to earn a lot of money from new game sales, DLC, and digital in-game items like game cash, custom paid mods, and characters. The cost of fast servers, and the fast internet connections can be very expensive.

I think most PUBG gamers would not want their game to be discontinued because PUBG can't earn enough money because the hackers and cheaters scared everyone away.

I thinks PUBG has more than enough regular players to keep them profitable. What really perplexes me is why have they still not been able to make a better anti cheat tool for the game.
