At Comic-Con this year, Doctor Who star Matt Smith became the first Doctor ever to visit the convention while still playing the role (we got David Tennant in 2009, but that was after he had already filmed his last episode). The panel, featuring Smith and Karen Gillan (who plays companion Amy Pond), plus writer Toby Whithouse and producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis, drew a standing-room only crowd in Hall H, a 6,000-seat plus venue reserved in previous years for big Hollywood movies. It felt like a huge party for fans, who dressed in some pretty creative Who-themed costumes – lots of Doctors, Amys and Rivers, Daleks and dresses inspired by Daleks, TARDIS dresses and Weeping Angels – and raised their sonic screwdrivers in the air like lighters at a rock concert.

The crowd went wild when the guests took the stage. And went wild again when they got to see an exclusive clip from Whithouse's upcoming episode, "The God Complex," the 11th episode of the season. It showed the Doctor, Amy and Rory in an abandoned hotel out to catch a monster. As a giant minotaur ominously roams the empty halls, a raving man speaks in verses of worship over a loudspeaker. Oh, and there's also a clown. Shiver.

The next bit of footage was a trailer for the second half of the season, revealing some interesting things to come. Have a look:
