Yes, I think gaming mouse pad make a difference on how fast you move your mouse, and how accurately your mouse tracks your movement since gaming mouse pads are usually designed to be smooth, and made of materials which make your mouse track it well.
I own a gaming mousepad ^__^ it really does make a difference. This one is smooth material and feels alot better than my old one which was some kind of plastic covered foam.
