I don't really use it other than to try out new games and when cutscenes play. It's kinda annoying to have to keep the 3DS in a certain position while I'm playing a game. I tend to move, so it's always off.
I'm apparently in the minority here, but I quite like the 3D effects just in general. The only times I'll turn it off are if I'm in the car or something else that causes my arms to move enough to make it more trouble than it's worth holding it still, or if I'm trying to save power (yes I know it's not a big difference but every little bit helps hehe). I do enjoy the visual effects that the 3D provide…I think it's a nice boost, and since I have the ability to use it, I might as well!
I almost always have it turned off, unless I'm just starting a new game and want to see how it looks, or think there's a particularly impressive effect... But it's always flipped back off right away. It's just overly uncomfortable to use.
I have no problems in using it, I just don't. The effect is really worth the extra battery power it uses, since you get used to it after the first few minutes. For some reason though, I found that a Link Between Worlds' 3ds was really effective and I had it on most of the time. You wouldn't have thought a top-down game like that would be the best for 3d.
I only move my slider when I need to set depth on Colors3D - other than that it is on full 3D at all times. SOME GAMES, however, the 3D is atrocious and makes me cross-eyed such as Freaky Forms Deluxe and Super Mario 3D Land. I couldn't play Animal Crossing New Leaf without the 3D as it looks SO beautiful with the added depth.
Every now and then I turn the 3D on, but now on my XL I have a large scratch diagonally going up and when you turn the 3D on it stands out more, kind of bugs you if you have it for too long. :/ So when it's off it's barely visible. But yeah I use the 3D occasionally, especially for seeing the panels in Mii Plaza.

It depends on the game I'm playing. I often forget the 3d slider is even there. I absolutely love it in Ocarina of Time 3d and Starfox. I'll turn the 3d on when i'm not concerned about battery power or if the game is new and looks great with the 3d. Though as of recent I haven't used it much. I just keep forgetting it's there. I still appreciate the ability to use it.

I did similarly to my regular 3DS. I have a very thin thread scratch on my screen from when I was holding the stylus in my mouth to answer my cellphone and it fell out and hit my top screen. Now, you can't even see the stupid scratch unless you REALLY look for it when the slider is down but OMG can you notice it when the 3D is on! Unless in a white background.
Sometimes I wonder what data Nintendo uses to find out what people like and don't like... it seems to me that at least by virtue of our incredibly small sample size, most people have their 3D off for the majority of their play time, only occasionally turning it on at best. Why does Nintendo feel the need to push these new 'features' so hard when they don't necessarily seem to be used much, especially when it's something off the wall that few to no other company has (Probably with good reason)? If given the option, I'd much rather have dumped the 3D for HD instead.
It'd be interesting to see a much larger study of just how many people actually use the 3D for a reasonable enough amount of time to have warranted it's inclusion in the console. I mean, someone could superglue my 3D slider in the off position and I might not ever notice it...
