You know, the ones that don't involve reaching the end of a linear board?
Because to be honest, I've always thought both 9 and Island Tour seem to have lost one of the things that made some of the earlier games great, and that the problems with said earlier games came from things other than the basic formula.

Anyone agree?
For me, 3 was the last good one. After that, they all went downhill. I loved the way the shop system worked in the first trilogy of games, too. The mini games were all unique and fun in those three, to me. Everything after the third game just felt dry, bland, and forced.
I want the old Mario Party back. Mario Party 8 was too gimmicky. Mario Party 9 was better, but I miss going seperate ways. Mario Party 3 was the best in a lot of things, but for the story, I liked Mario Party 7. I liked how it was based on cruising to new boards. Plus they had Dry Bones and he became my second favorite playable character and Mario Party 8 had it so I liked Hammer Bro more. However, like I said, I didn't like Mario Party 8 at all.
I hate Mario Party recently...I enjoyed all the games up till Mario Party 5 (and still enjoy those first 5)and then they started changing the entire formula. Badly I might add. Why they continue with these games is beyond me seeing how terrible Mario Party 9 was.
Mario Party 4 is still my favorite to this day…the ones before it were quite good as well. 5 introduced Capsules which I never liked, and things just went downhill from there. I'd love a return to a more "classic" formula of Mario Party…if they keep it up with the current way then I will continue to not buy them.
I've never played any of the Mario Party games other then 8, and maybe 7? I really enjoy 8, but I must be seriously missing out on the older games I guess! I never tried 9, I didn't like that everyone moved around the board in one little car thingy, and it didn't feel like you would be playing a board game...
I don't like how many of the mini games in 8 are based solely on luck, like the 'cut the ropes and hope you aren't the one to fly off the mountain' game. I'd much rather actually PLAY a game, and feel like I had at least some affect on the outcome then to feel cheated.

I'll all over with the series because I really disliked MP5. I like how they brought back the Star Spirits from Paper Mario, but I didn't like the story mode. It's not as memerable as MP3, MP4, or MP7. Though I kind of liked the car thing, but at the same time I didn't. Though I think it was because I was an only child so I didn't have anyone to actually do that with. However, that's the kind of thing I want in a Mario Kart game. Customization like that. Buying parts with coins and mixing them together.
