Does it bother you when people say you must donate a certain amount of money?

I'm rather poor, so if a charity/non-profit asks me to donate a minimum amount of money like 20 dollars, I usually don't donate since I don't have a job, and I feel they are pressuring me to donate more then I can afford, or if I donate less then the minimum amount, my money is no good to them because it is too less.

I think having a certain amount you must donate is pretty ridiculous. I mean it defeats the whole utilitarian beliefs that embodies it. Although if that's how it is, then you just don't have to donate money, easy enough.

I dislike it when charities ask for Bank Account and Credit Card info, so they can charge a certain amount of money every month for donations rather then being happy with any amount of money which a donator can afford to give them at that time.

I agree with you. If they won't accept lower amount donations then I will not simple give them anything. Many of those charity things seem pretty greedy. You can never be too sure where the money goes in the end.

With the majority of charities only about 10-20% of the money donated actually goes to those being helped. I mean Red Nose day here in Britain, one of the biggest charity events of the year, only 70% went to the affected countries.

Having a certain amount to donate is ridiculous. I mean, the word donation means you give what you can to help someone/people out and a charity should be greatful for any donation they get. So when they ask for a certain amount, can you really trust them? There are plenty organizations out there that would be happy for a $1.00 donation.

the problem with donating today is finding a legit place to donate to; a lot of these orgs. are good and a lot are run by crooked, money-hungry people in other countries that sap .99 cents out of every dollar we donate,

so there are pros and cons,

the best advice - take care of yourself first and if you are doing well then donate to something you have researched first.
 ,

just 2 cents

I usually donate coins on the streets. If they need me to donate like $20, I'd rather not.
I personally donate $50 each month to the Community Chest and they actually send me a report on what they spend on after each financial year - so at least I do get to know where my money has gone to.

It does. Normally I wouldn't know the extent of how much they would actually give out....
So, I get annoyed when they demand for certain amount.

I won't donate anything if someone tells me that a particular charity has to have X amount of money. I'm sorry but I have bills to pay in order to live. Now....if I have any extra money at the end of the month, then I can see donating to a charity or organization that really needs it. But if a charity/organization says I have to donate a certain amount then I tell them goodbye and walk off. Who are they to dictate how I spend my money or how much money a person can afford to give?
