Does Nintendo need to package in a bigger SD card with the system?

Because put simply, 4 GB is now way, way too small to store many retail games people would buy from the eShop. Heck, you literally cannot fit Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and any other big game on an SD card together. Or for that matter, Resident Evil Revelations and near enough ANYTHING, since the former apparently takes up 3.2 GB of space.

So should Nintendo maybe package a 16 or 30 GB one by default now? Because asking people to go out of their way to buy a new SD card with the required amount of space is ridiculous. Even more so in the UK where places like PC World barely seem to sell any remotely decent SD card tech.

What do you think?

Yes, especially with their push for digital downloads as of late. 2 GB just isn't enough if you plan on downloading full games. I speak from experience; most 3DS games are around half a gig in size or more.

I've never stuck with the packaged SD card for any Nintendo systems that have come with them, to be honest. I always need/want to upgrade, so I at least have some breathing room with storage space. I currently have a 16 GB SDHC in my 3DS, still relatively empty even with two full 3DS games and various other eShop titles on it.

They should either package better SD cards in new systems for a slightly higher price, or else not provide one for you. SDHC cards (just regular SD cards with "Higher Capacity") aren't too expensive if you know where to look (mine was $10-$20).

:yeahthat: Tech put it best. Pretty much took the words out of my mouth and did it better than I would have. lol My 3DS came with a 2 gig and I have to swap cards with my other 2 gig from my old DSi (which it came with) if I want to play Harvest Moon: A New Beginning or Luigi's Mansion 2. As you said, I couldn't fit them both on one card. I see the XLs come with 4 gigs... that's lame that the 3DS gets a 2 gig and XL gets a 4 gig. I mean, it isn't like because the 3DS XL is physically bigger that the games are going to be larger file sizes! :banghead:

I think Nintendo is right in not asking us to pay for what we don't need, they should not provide a card IMO, it will reduce the price.

I don't think that having a 3ds with a 32GB card is what everyone wants, Some people are ok with the 2 GB card, and those who need more space can always upgrade!

That's one of their tricks to make people see an XL as more value for money. It is IMO

I really don't think it's a trick to make people pay more money. Nintendo realized that 2 gigs wasn't enough, because they had just started releasing retail games that had large file sizes. The decided to throw in double that, which I don't think they realized wouldn't be enough either.

But they did not upgrade the standard 3DS SD card, though, as I said it's a marketing trick.

Yes, they should. Maybe slighty raise the price of a 3DS for one with a larger SD card. I actually plan on getting a bigger one here pretty soon. It's just a pain having to use the allotted space you originally get.
