Does Reading Comic Books Exclude Reading Manga And Vice Versa?

I like doing both. I can enjoy a comic book just as much as I enjoy reading manga. I was a great fan of Marvel for long five years before I started reading manga. Then I went back to comic books with W.I.T.C.H. for the next six years or so, but I also kept reading manga meanwhile. However, some believe that one excludes the other:

I have many friends who only read comic books and who consider that manga books are not worth their attention: that they're boring and without a good plot. Although I disagree, I find that it's difficult to convince them otherwise. I also have two friends who are manga only: they detest comic books and even when I tried to get them addicted to W.I.T.C.H. and borrowed them a few issues, they simply thought them too dull and not good enough.

What is your opinion. Can you possibly be a fan of both or must you choose? Why?

Well, I didn't know for sure, so I had to check it out. Here's what I found out:

The first comic book issue was published in 2001, but it started being published in Croatia (my mother tongue) in 2003. I probably started buying the issues in 2004/5 as I didn't begin from the first issue, but I think from #13, which would be about a year later or so, as they were published monthly. The final issue was released in 2012. However, when it comes to Croatian versions, they'd probably never even finished it as sometime around 2008 they started cutting the number of pages by half, for the same price! I remember very well. I was shocked when I got only half of the story instead of the whole issue. And I still paid the regular price. That meant that for the next few years, instead of releasing 12 issues per year in Croatian, we basically got 6, although we were still paying for twelve. I'd stopped reading very soon after that. It was simply far too much and I was growing out of it. So I found it online somewhere and finished the series in English in about a month or so.

I'd also found out that by 2005 it was being read in 65 countries! Imagine that! That sounds soooo much! By the way, I'd also mentioned the TV series, which appeared somewhere in 2004 and lasted to 2006. We didn't get them all, though. I think I'd only seen a few episodes or so.

Hmm... I thought the W.I.T.C.H. series was created in Italy... Why did they cut the story by half?

I really wish they would make a live action movie of W.I.T.C.H.. It would be pretty awesome!
