Nintendo announced a new entery int he Donkey kong country series named, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for the Wii U. Besides Donkey kong and diddy kong, Dixie Kong is also playable and the game supports two-player co-op play.
Looks like pretty much classic Donkey Kong Country game play. It looks great in HD, seems HD has been a long time coming for most Nintendo franchises... but hey I'll take what I can get. I'm glad that Nintendo is keeping the side-scroller platform going, even though it has some 3-D twists and camera angles, but side-scrollers are a fun genre and I feel like they're getting pushed to the wayside a lot on consoles lately. I for one am getting pretty sick of first person shooters. I do find it a little humorous they're touting 2player co-op... wow what a cool feature, you mean like Sonic 2 did about 20 years ago... Dixie Kong's hair helping her fly even reminds me of Tails.
I'm not really a platforming fan nor a Donkey Kong fan. When I saw the word "freeze" in the title, I thought this would be another embarrassing E3 presentation video showcasing a mess of a presentation.
Instead I was met with a gorgeous video of a game that makes me want to go out and purchase a Wii U! Great job, Nintendo!
It seems incredibly similar to Donkey Kong Country Returns, apart from a slight graphical upgrade. I don't find that to be a bad thing though. It doesn't need any changes in the gameplay mechanics.
I did notice that in the video you could only have a pair of Donkey Kong and one other character. I wonder if it's possible to have Diddy Kong and Dixie as a team. I wonder if you can play co-op online too, but I really doubt it.
I'm not convinced by the Wii U yet, but if I do get one, this game will be on my list.
I have never been fan of the Donkey Kong titles. Don't know why they just never really interested me. But I have to admit after seeing this trailer I'm very impressed it really does look like a great game!
DKC:TF looks great to me. I've always loved the DKC titles and DKCR on the Wii was no exception, it was a really solid game.
I was quite happy to learn that David Wise (guy from Rare who made the music for the classic DKC titles.. and also for Battletoads) will be back with this game.
Between DK, Sonic Lost World, Super 3D Mario World and Rayman Legends I'll certainly be quite busy with platforming in the holiday season. Can't wait!
It really feels like the same with Returns in some aspects, even the owl looks almost like the flying tikis, but even that said, I loved DKCR and still play it time to time. Atmospheric and beautiful to look at, I love the scenes I saw here, and really loved that I got to see snowy mountains again, which I have yet to see since the SNES era. This game would go down to must-have for me once it releases.
