This is a just a warning to anyone out there thinking of picking up a used or refurbished Xbox 360 console. Watch out! You may be purchasing a modded console that was part of Microsoft's mass banning from a few weeks back.
As first reported by CNET, classifieds website Craigslist has become flooded with "great deals" on modded Xbox 360 consoles. Some sellers are admitting their console for sale is banned, while others are not disclosing this fact.
Microsoft warns buying a banned console, modded or not, will not allow its new owner to connect to Xbox LIVE.
"If you purchase a modified console second-hand, the warranty is not transferable and the purchaser assumes the risk for any previous modifications," a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. "If you purchase a console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to LIVE."
Next time you're thinking about picking up a used Xbox 360, find out for sure that it has not been banned or modified.
