Sorry! According to Sony, the eagerly anticipated title is not slated for later this year.
"We are not ready to talk about 2013. But some of the games we showed like God of War and The Last of Us are not coming out this year," Sony's Shuhei Yoshida told website VG247.

I would have thought the last of us be out, but oh well. 2013 folks, maybe.
 
The Last of Us is EASILY one of the best looking games so far so that's a drag that it's not out this year but oh well, gives me time to get a PS3 and there's a lot of great games coming out at least. I love how your sidekick in the game actually has a lot of clever uses, seems uncommon a lot of times.
 
I don't mind the wait. I've learned the virtues of patience thanks to Valve. Not to mention that this year is almost halfway done. If I have to wait another six-ten months for an amazing game I can gladly shell $60 on, I'll do it. It's definitely better than shelling out $60 on a half-baked game.
 
Shame about te Last of Us, but considering how hard they are pushing the survival angle and the need for a good companion A.I. it only makes sense to take their time and work out all the glitches. I would much rather wait and get a product I'll love and treasure, then get a glitch-ridden rushjob ala Mass Effect 3 (although I did so love ME3).
 
I wasn't exactly looking forward to those two games, but I do know a few friends who'll be disappointed to hear this, especially for The Last Of Us.
 
Well, God of War was announced for 2013 when they were on stage. So no shock there.

I did think the Last of US was a hoiday game this year. Oh well, not that big of a deal for me. I'll get it whenever it comes out.

It was a big disappointment for most gamers. I hope Pokemon Black/White 2 will be interesting enough to keep me entertained this year.

Everything is a disappointment to most gamers. We're talking about people that will complain if a game doesn't come with the tiniest of details that they probably won't give a damn about anyway. But hey, they'll live.
 
Bummer, I was looking forward to this year but I can wait because they have some really good game coming out this year anyway. Like Starhawk, Mass Effect 3, and The Last Guardian.
 
It would be foolish for them to release either one of those games on the PS3. They have to wait to release them on the PS4 or whatever it will be called. If they aren't a part of the new library, Sony is run by a bunch of fools. Sony had/has a big enough problem with not being able to phase out the PS2, they can't repeat the same mistake with the PS3.
 
I'm a little disappointed with the God of War not being finished in time. The other game I never heard of that before, so I'm not waiting on that one. I guess there are always games that the developers are dragging their feet to finish. Maybe they need to make some last minute tweaks and changes. Final Fantasy is another game that holds off past the release date, so this won't be the last time this happens.
 
I won't lie I'm a little dissapointed about the substantial wait for "The Last of Us". I've already been looking forward to it since I first read about it on Naughty Dog's website a few months ago. However I do agree with the other posters I'd rather have a wait for a brilliant game then get a game earlier that doesn't live up to it's potential. I'm a huge fan of Naughty Dog and trust their judgement.

How was not phasing out the PS2 a problem?

The PS2 was still turning profit even with the PS3 out and available. If something is still making money and the costs of production is cheap (at that point), then there is no reason to stop producing it because there is still a demand for it.

If you were a buisnessman, would you leave money on the table or would you keep running with it until your customers decide they've had enough?

Sony wanted and needed people to move onto the PS3, but if developers are still making games for the PS2, then you have way too large of a segment of your audience that won't move on, because they don't have to. They were leaving money on the table by only getting the money for the games, if a player still had a working PS2 or the occasional new buy of the system when they needed to replace it.

It was turning a profit after X amount of years because Sony lost money at the front end of the product cycle. The same thing with the PS3, they lose money at the beginning and way into the middle of the cycle, they can start making money. Well, they cut into their PS3 money by still having the PS2 on the shelves.

If you asked one of their executives, they'd probably tell you the truth. They didn't want two competing consoles, but they priced the PS3 so high, that they had to take the money wherever they could because too many people in their consumer base, could not or would not buy a PS3 immediately.
 
I'm really looking forward to The Last of Us and was going to pre-order it in this deal at Future Shop but hearing that it won't be out for another year I'm kinda glad I didn't xD
