Sometimes when people are talking about handheld games and console games I hear them implying that only home console games are "real" games.
Like, this is a conversation I heard recently:
Person A: "X should get a new game. Like on 3DS!"
Person B: "He should get an actual game on WiiU."
This really makes me mad. Why do people think that way?
Just because it's on a small screen?
I don't get it. The games are just as complex and just as beautiful.
Sure, the hardware isn't as "good" but that's no good argument. By that logic N64 games shouldn't be called real games anymore.
If anything their portability makes them even better as games.
Have you noticed stuff like that?
What do you think?
I haven't heard of that before. Both console and handheld games have their pros and cons but console games can be considered high resolution and modern advances in video games (like on the PC) so I could understand a little why they would think that way. Pokemon is normally never very entertaining on a console but then again it was innovative by being on a Gameboy and having connectivity so I would consider it a "real" game.
I've seen it with Super Mario Land 1 and 2. Even though they play just like the first few Mario games people tend to not count them as part of the main series of platformers. As if they were some sort of spin-offs or something.
I've also never heard this. Like I know people who say, "Handheld games are always shorter than console games." That used to be true, but nowadays handheld games are about as long as a console game if not longer than most.
This happened to me once, probably around 2007 and I still had my Gameboy Advanced SP and a friend told me I should play real games on the Gamecube instead of a handheld because it was basically much better, graphics and games. I think why people don't consider an equal to home consoles is probably the quantity of the game. For some might have more things than their handheld adaptation.
I do like the portability, but the controls are just darn uncomfortable for long periods of time. For instance I'd much rather play and I say be better at SMB3 on a home console rather than handheld because I'm able to do a lot more than what I can on the Nintendo 3DS, and I'm glad the Gamecube controller will be able to be used on the Wii U.
Yeah I do. Especially given that games like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon are literally just console games played on a portable device, as were Mario Land 1 and 2 in their day.
