DotA 2?

I'm not exactly sure what dota 2 stands for.

Dota 2 is a free to play MOBA(Massively Online Battle Arena) Game similar to League of Legends, but made by Valve. You can download and play Dota 2 free from Steam for the PC.

I played the how to tutorial for Dota 2, and it was pretty fun.

It's hard to describe, but I think froggyboy hit the nail on the head.

It's a extremely fun game, the tutorial doesn't show what the game is about though.

I have put 550 hours into the game, and the main game I play right now, outside of say a little bit of TERA or something else. If you like League of Legends, I strongly suggest you give it a try, if you hate League I strongly suggest you try DotA.

Oh, and the game stands for Defence of the Ancients, essentially a carbon copy upgrade from the WC3 mod.

As Casper said, it's Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft III mod that inspired all this stuff.

Dota is the name because Blizzard has the right to sue if they use the actual mod name, I think.

In the home country, Russia, Dota 2 is huge. It's probably the second most beloved genre of games to our culture, behind only hardcore wilderness survival.

Those wilderness survival games...are more hardcore than you would think. I can go on a server for the original one and see more Russians than Americans online at some points in time.

If you want a bit of a historic joke, Sweden invented Russia and wilderness survival games. They go together naturally.
