For the 25th anniversary of the Dragon Quest video game series, Square-Enix has announced today that they will be releasing a Dragon Quest Collection disc for the Nintendo Wii come September. This is likely an effort to heighten fan interest for the upcoming Dragon Quest X, which was revealed to be in the works for the Nintendo Wii a few years ago.
It seems to be similar to the Super Mario All-Stars anniversary disc that Nintendo released last year. The disc will compile the original three Dragon Quest games: Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest 2 and Dragon Quest 3 for the NES. Besides these titles it will also include the SNES versions of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 and Dragon Quest 3. Square-Enix has said that they will be ports, playable with the Wiimote, Gamecube Controller or Classic Controller, but have given no price details as of yet.
Square-Enix has said that fans can expect more developments to come from the 25th anniversary of the series and that a special site for it will be launching soon. They also mentioned that as of December 2010, the series has sold 57 million units (packaged only) so far.
