Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has said the company doesn't see the DS as a direct rival for the PSP - despite the fact they're both handheld machines for playing computer games on.

"We've always thought that the PSP as a platform is standing on its own - there's no direct competition. Some people think that the DS is its rival simply because it's portable, but the positioning and the main user base are totally different," he told GamesIndustry.biz.

"It's just been a question of how to take the best out of the platform and deliver it to consumers, so they understand that they can use it every day for many things. So I think we're still early on the curve."

Yoshida went on to admit there have been issues with a lack of third-party software, but said it's all set to change in the longer term. "Like when we started with PlayStation One, with videogames as being a toy, and looking at the individual countries when it comes to introducing new aspects to the platform - in our minds we're doing the same sort of thing with the PSP since 2005," he observed.

"It's too early to make judgements - we know there's a lot more that we can do, and with the massive growth of the industry we understand that third party publishers have so many choices, many more than they have resources. Sometimes we struggle to convince them to put more resources into the PSP.

"But when they really focus on what they can do with the platform, there are still lots of good business opportunities that are still viable, and will continue to be, because there are no competing platforms."

sony is blind.

I have to say that if you're more into games that are "Sony style", then the PSP is the obvious choice. I'd say the same if you wish to watch movies and such on a portable device.

However, if you're into games that are "Nintendo style", the obvious choice is the DS.

My extremist opinion:

If you have any good taste, you don't walk around with a portable gaming platform in your hands. Instead, you should do something outside that's actually proactive and keep yourself in shape (just because you're skinny doesn't mean you're fit). When you're at home, then you can enjoy good games on powerful platforms.

good way of saying it.

Well for me it's clear that I ratter choose the PSP and one of the reasons for it is

The PSP has some of the greatest games ever(that's my opinion)and the DS has games that are eitheir for kids 6 and 7 to 10 and 12 or classics(which I enjoyed at first but now tired of the redo they do with them) I'm not sayng I hate the classics because I loved Mario's first game but I have a different need now technology is advancing fast and unless Nintendo comes out from it's slumber from the past maybe I'll start to play their games I'll give you guys an example: Pokemon red blue and Yellow; then comes Pokemon Crystal, Silver and gold; next comes Pokemon Ruby,Sapphire and ermerald; then after that Pokemon fire red and leaf green(Fire red a redo of red version); then next Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. So this ends my long and boring opinion.

it's fact that the PSP has the greatest games around like megaman, final fantasy, god of war, ect. It's technology is also far better. The DS has games that people of all ages can enjoy and makes it fun to play. One thing is for sure, Nintendo will always come out with a handheld that will make people happy unlike sony.
