Nintendo has told MCV that it will "let the market decide" whether or not to phase out the DS Lite following DSi's launch.

In an exclusive guide to the new system, we asked Nintendo's UK general manager David Yarnton if the company was looking to end DS Lite's presence in stores following DSi's arrival.

He said:

“We’ll let the market decide. We expect some people will upgrade, but we also anticipate that we’ll win over people who were still undecided on DS – the extra features will help convince them.

I feel Nintendo should keep both the DS and DSi on the market. people will like them both and they could rule the handheld market with two handheld systems.

I think they should keep both models, too. I'm not too big of a fan of the DSi since the Camera is not very good, and it cost more I heard.

I wonder if this rumour make people stock up on DSLites, so they won't be stuck with buying the DSi if the DsLite is phased out.

The DSi costs abotu 160 - 170.
The DSLite costs about 120, if they kept them both out, they would win some massive epicness for the normal games(DSLite) and the hardcore bitch(Me, also, DSi)

Actually:
DSi=$170
DS Lite=$130

And yeah they would make money if they keep them both out.

Man I always thought Nintendo wounldn't repeat the mistake of releasing a next-gen console that didn't just glorified the previous model like the Wii but in a Kotaku report they actually had the guts to admit the DSi is only a 1.25 of a new console.

I certainly hope not, because having both DS systems around can allow buyers to decide which handheld works best in their gaming interests.

My sarcasm detector is beeping...
Is it right?

I plan on getting a DS Lite eventually- no love for the DSi so I hope the DS Lite is still in production for a while

I think the Ds Lite will be inproduction for awhile until the next Handheld is release. The DS Lite will be the bext GBA SP. Being around till people moved onto the next gen handheld.
