In the very same press conference that bought news of Wii Sports Resort's release date, Nintendo also revealed an impressive set of sales figures for the DSi's opening spell in Western markets, whilst also quelling rumours of an imminent price drop for its hardware.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata headed the Tokyo conference, at which Kotaku were in attendance, and revealed that 600,000 DSi units were shifted across Europe and North America over the handheld's opening weekend.

Iwata also addressed the slowing sales of Wii hardware – following the news that the PS3 has begun to outsell the console in Japan – stating (via Reuters), "Wii (demand) is not vigorous at the moment in Japan. In fact, it is in the most unhealthy situation since its launch in Japan."

However, there are no plans for a price cut for either the DSi or Wii, with Iwata adding, "If our products are not much different from competitors', price cuts would generate significant fresh demand. But video games are just not that kind of product."
