This does look like a cool app for adding an extra display to a Mac. But, there are $89 USB 3.0 16 inch monitors which cost less than a $500 iPad, and has a bigger screen as well.
$9.99 is kind of expensive for an App. I bet, it would be cheaper to buy a regular monitor to plug into a Mac's HDMI port or Display Pro than to use an iPad Air 2 which cost $500 for the cheapest model with 16GB of storage. Plus, buying an extra charging cable for the iPad will cost about $20.
