It took 15 years, but development for Duke Nukem Forever is finished. 2K Games and Gearbox Software today confirmed the game has "gone gold," signaling its completed development.

"Duke Nukem Forever and its journey to store shelves is legendary," said George Broussard, creative director at 3D Realms. "It's an epic tale of four game development studios that banded together and did the unthinkable and shipped the unshippable. When you play this game you will be reminded of that epic journey at every turn and in every small detail of the game."

Duke Nukem Forever is set to launch on June 10 Internationally and June 14 in North America for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Pre-ordering the game or purchasing the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition will grant players into the demo for all platforms on June 3.

"Duke Nukem Forever is the game that was once thought to be unshippable, and yet here we are, on the precipice of history," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Today marks an amazing day in the annals of gaming lore, the day where the legend of Duke Nukem Forever is finally complete and it takes that final step towards becoming a reality."

you got to admit, this game has one hell of a back story making.

And I bet the game is a load of rubbish. No game with this much hype can possibly live up to expectations. And in those 15 years the community has matured somewhat so the game will probably come across as rather obnoxious. But hey, it's Duke Nukem and I will be getting it if only for the nostalgia :P

Can't wait to review it. I will be torn to talking about how clearly terrible the game is while marvelling at its sheer immaturity and balls to the wall attitude. I know I said we need to grow up a bit but this is one of those rare occasions where we can go back to a more immature stage. It's like in film. For every Shawshank redemption there is a Grown Ups. For every Avatar there is a Mega Shark. Gotta balance the bad with the good sometimes otherwise we'd have nothing to compare and everyone likes to unwind now and then and let their brains rest :)

Several reasons

1. It is portraying an attitude taken in video games that is 15 years out of date. Everyone else has done a bit of growing up since then but it is still going to be the same adventure into gun-toting macho misogynous mayhem
2. The constant development changes have meant that it has probably had to start from scratch every time and since the company only picked it up a couple of years ago it will have probably just ported the Unreal Engine straight out the box to deliver a samey grey/brown shooter
3. Duke Nukem has never by any stretch of the imagination been good. It has been entertaining but never good. Just a bunch of standard gameplay, ridiculous violence, language and demeaning views towards women. There is nothing actually good about that. It just tickles our primal instincts to entertain us which is not always a bad thing. Nice relaxation for our brains after playing the good games.
4. Nothing this hyped can ever come even close to the expectations laid before it. Duke Nukem forever has been made out to be some sort of Adonis of video games that will lead the heroic battle towards innovation and change when in reality it will probably be a rather bland shooter with cheesy one liners and lesbian schoolgirls.

That is why the game will probably be really fun but absolutely appalling value as a game.

Think of it like this:

Shawshank Redemption is one of the greatest movies of all time
American Pie: Beta House is one of the shittiest movies of all time

yet I can still watch Beta House as often as Shawshank and still be entertained

why? because they tickle different responses.

Shawshank makes me think, makes me feel makes me consider everything that is happening and brings home a truly fantastic story
Beta House just makes sex jokes and inappropriate situations throughout but it makes me laugh and lets me enjoy something without needing to think too hard. Still doesn't change the fact it's an appallingly made film

Something funny doesn't have to be bad, like Toy Story 3. And the demeaning of women is because Duke is so full of himself. He thinks he's better than everyone, and he's actually trying to save the women from the aliens killing them.

No I was using a funny film as an example. I could just as easily use something like Friday the 13th (2009 remake) which is nothing but violence but still stirs the same primal enjoyment in my mind without the film having to be any good.

Oh no, I like it :P don't worry about that. I just can't call it a good game for above reason :L Not trying to argue, just trying to get my point across

It's basically a case of understanding that Good and Entertaining are not synonymous. Go back to films again. American pie is extremely funny but it isn't going to win any Oscars for quality. That is an example of bad but entertaining. Just a case of realising what is just entertaining and what is actually good. You can still like a bad film but admit that it is pretty bad. I mean I like Mega Shark films but they are absolutely shit with appauling actors, special effects, plot etc. doesn't change the fact they are entertaining to watch just changes the quality of entertainment.
