Now that the craziness of E3 2011 is behind us, it's time to look ahead...to E3 2012.
The Entertainment Software Association today announced that next year's show will take place June 5-7 at the L.A. Convention Center in Los Angeles.
This year, 46,800 industry professionals, analysts and retailers attended the 3-day event, the ESA says, which is up slightly from last year's 45,600. The annual trade show also generated more than $25 million in revenue for the city of Los Angeles.
"E3 2011 was phenomenal," noted Gordon Bellamy, executive director of the International Game Developers’ Association. "The event showcased the best of our craft and the outstanding work of the industry’s developers. E3, once again, proved that video games are a dominant force in entertainment and are changing the way we live, work, and play."
This year's show featured more than 120 retail companies from 18 countries, and international participation in the event grew overall compared to 2010.
E3 organizers are currently in talks with Los Angeles officials to keep the event at the L.A. Convention Center after their contract expires next year. ESA Senior Vice President of Industry Affairs Rich Taylor tells the L.A. Times that while the association would like to keep E3 in Los Angeles, it is keeping its options open. They are concerned, he says, about AEG Inc.'s proposed contruction of Farmers Field on what is currently the convention center's West Hall.
"We don't want our attendees to have to rappel across a construction quarry to get to a booth," Taylor said.
