Monster Hunter's tremendous success on the PSP (over 3.5 million for the third entry) has not gone unnoticed. Famitsu reports in its latest issue that Namco Bandai is stepping up with God Eater, a Monster Hunter-style game with some twists.

You play as a God Eater, a young warrior who has taken up arms against Aragami, a powerful, mysterious creature that has appeared around the world. You team up with three other God Eaters for co-operative Aragami hunting through over 100 missions.

God Eater lets players create their own character, editing such areas as hair style, hair color, face, skin, clothing, and voice. You can even customize your weapon using special materials.

Weapons come in three basic forms: blade form, gun form, and predator form. You can switch between instantly whenever you like as part of the game's Deus Ex Machina system.

Outside of multiplayer, the game promises something for which Monster Hunter isn't particularly known: a large story. When playing alone, you'll experience a full story with CPU-controlled NPC characters. These characters have names and voice actors.

PSP owners in Japan can look forward to this new take on Monster Hunter this Fall.
