PC sales have seen a sharp decline in Brazil during the second quarter of 2014, according to new numbers released by analyst IDC.

The sales decline of 26 percent in comparison to the same period in 2013 was caused by the upcoming presidential elections and a current purchasing slowdown within the public sector, as well as the World Cup — because consumer spending was mainly focused on televisions during the second quarter.

Conversely, PC sales in the country have seen an increase of 8 percent in comparison to the first quarter of 2014, according to the analyst.

I never knew that Elections and the World Cup can make more people stop buying PCs. I guest people are watching TV more during the World Cup and Elections, and using their PC less, so their PC is less likely to break during those two events.

There is also the possibility that the PCs were bought before hand to watch the games. Also since its not cheap to go to sports events that is where the PC money went to.

I agree Sports event tickets, and Soccer team T-shirts, uniforms, hats and accessories like sports team watches with the sports team logo on the watch and watches are kind of expensive.

I bet DVRs like Tivo sold pretty well during the world cup, so soccer fans can record soccer matches when they are at work or school.
