Call of Duty and Battlefield are military simulators as much as Super Mario Bros is a plumbing simulator. Anyone who has played a military simulator which depicts a more realistic example of warfare (such as Operation Flashpoint or Arma) knows how immensely slow actual combat can be. It isn't commando knife stabs and 360 no-scopes. It's sitting in a corner for an hour, trading potshots with the enemy until one of you gets lucky and lands a hit.
On the topic of Euro Truck Simulator 2, I was a bit late to the truck simulator bandwagon, as I was 100% sure I wouldn't enjoy it. I'm kind of glad to say I was wrong, though. I decided to pick it up on a whim, and I don't think I put it down for hours afterwards. There's something really calming about having your attention focused on the road, but in a way that isn't stressful or dominating. I never thought I'd play a game that would require constant attention and yet not feel overwhelming. It can be really meditative sometimes.
