Everquest II's been out for years, but, like many other MMOs in recent times, has finally gone free-to-play. Anyone can now download the EQII client as well as all the expansions up to Sentinel's Fate. Also included is the Freeport Reborn game update.

Not all the content is free, though. The eighth expansion, Age of Discovery, still costs money. This expansion adds the Beastlord class and a Dungeon Maker.

Additionally there are now tiers of service in EQII. Free membership gets you the content detailed above, with two character slots that max out at level 90. Restrictions are in place, affecting "playable races, bag slots, spell tiers, equipment upgrades and more."

If you're willing to put up a bit of scratch, you can go for a silver or gold membership. Silver memberships cost $5, do not expire, and lift or diminish some of the free tier restrictions. Gold memberships cost the standard $14.99 per month, and basically grant you access to everything as you'd expect.

Typically free-to-play games use micro-transactions to offset the gameplay, putting few restrictions on the content in favor of allowing you to buy augments to help you play the game.
