Expanding beyond Nintendo

I believe most people here are like me, grew up with either the NES, SNES and N64. But when Sony came out with PS 1 and sometime later Microsoft with Xbox, what made you leave or expand beyond Nintendo to get the other consoles?

I moved to PC, still have my Wii but I like what I can get on steam and not need a TV.
I go back to ninny every new Fire emblem though, so if FE3DS comes stateside I'll get one.

The PS2 came out around the time I started gaming, and my uncle had a PS1. Plus the PS2 was more appealing than the GameCube.
