A new 10,000 kilometer long underwater cable system is being constructed to help connect countries in Asia, and Facebook is among the investors in the project. The Asia Pacific Gateway is a planned fiber optic cable system that will run from Malaysia to South Korea and Japan, with seven different offshoots hitting other Asian countries as well, including both China and Vietnam. According to a Facebook spokesperson, the social network is investing in the project in order to aid its continued expansion in the region.
I do not like all this facebook stuff that has been poping up of late. But I rather see this fiber cable use to give more parts of the world cheaper and faster internet.
I am not sure if Facebook will be willing to pay/invest to build the Fiber Cable if the cable will be used by the world's internet to make it cheaper since Facebook doesn't seem to like sharing a lot unless they can embed a Facebook logo on a site like Facebook Connect/Login, Facebook Like, or fill it with Facebook Ads.
I see this being bad for slower loading websites since Facebook would load faster compared to slower sites on slower connections. Asian internet user might just use Facebook instead of Twitter and other slower loading social networks because they load more slower then Facebook.
