I would suggest Pinger: Textfree + Callfree.. it gives you a free number and you can use it to make free calls (you can either purchase minutes for them or download apps and earn them that way) and you can text any number you want..
It is available for both iOS and Android.
Unfortunately because of the way FB has their number verification set up, you cant use a pinger phone number (or viber for that matter) to use as verification.
If you have a data-only plan w/o voice services then you can use that number.. and then you wont have to worry about phone calls..
I used my tablet number at first, but then when FB kept harassing me for my personal details, I permanently deactivated my account.
