This is a review done on Fafner Heaven and Earth which is a movie based on Fafner in the Azure anime series. So if you haven't seen that series, don't read this review as it may contain spoilers.

This movie takes place two years after the end of the anime and everything is once again peaceful on the island. Of course by now humans have now developed a nuclear bomb for the aliens and by attacking them with it they unleash new kinds of enemies and even more problems for the island and the fighters.

As I mentioned in my anime series review, I didn't have much interest in the beginning of the anime but towards the end I found enough love and interest to get the movie as I thought it continue the great story, unfortunately this is not to be. From beginning to end the story did not advance much and by the end nothing had changed since the start which I have to wonder why make this movie unless there will be another which there is no news of. As far as story goes, I can't recommend it and if your not familiar with the terms and machine names you will easily get lost.

Animation and music wise the series is good and is made in HD for once besides the SD upscale the anime got. I enjoyed a lot of the tracks used and the artwork was good.

I watched the dub version of this show and even though there wasn't much a of time difference in VA recording, there was a lot of different VA actors in the movie for the returning characters which made it kind of hard to watch the movie but I got past this.

If you liked the anime, then you may like this movie.

Description:

Two years after the end of the original Soukyuu no Fafner TV series, Tatsumiya Island and its surviving residents have returned to some semblance of recovery. However, things have become desperate for our hero, Kazuki; nearly blind now, and partially crippled from his battles with the Festum two years earlier, he clings to the promise his fallen friend Soushi made to him to return to the island and set things right again. Kazuki's hopes flare when a lifeform is detected within an unmanned submarine that comes floating into Tatsumiya Bay one night, but the person aboard isn't Soushi; it is a mysterious "boy" named Misao Kurusu who may not be entirely human, and who claims to have been sent by Soushi. With Misao's arrival, hostilities break out anew between the Human Army and the Festum, and the Fafner pilots are thrown into the most desperate battle of their lives--this time, with the fate of TWO races riding on their shoulders.
