I'm a huge fan of fighting games even though my skills are just average, and it's why I mostly just stick to the characters I know unless the match I'm playing is a little less serious. That said, here are some of my go-to characters, and I'd love to hear about yours and why you love to use them.

Mine are Steve and Dragonov for Tekken, and I love them both for their simplicity because they have very powerful one-button moves that I can just perform at will so I don't have to memorize a bunch of combo strings which I dislike due to the fact that I forget them almost immediately after playing the game. For Street Fighter, I just usually pick either Ken, Ryu, or Akuma, but I'm able to figure out how to use most of all the other players in this game because they are all the similar. In Mortal Kombat, my all time favorite is Sub Zero because I like being able to freeze my opponent and therefore have time to think about what to do next. I've also gotten to play Injustice for a bit and I enjoyed using Lobo a lot because he is able to grab from a long distance.

How about you guys, which fighting games are your favorites, and which characters in it do you like using the most?

The only fighting games I've really played were Street Fighter, which didn't really have a plot and weren't interesting, besides, I kept losing to my sister. And Persona 4 Arena, which did have a plot and characters I loved, and while you can have someone play against you, you can also play alone.

In the former, I button-mashed randomly.

In the latter, I kept mashing square as fast as humanely possible.

I have trouble strategizing and dealing with real time simultaneously.

So... actually, this moves me to ask, what make a fighting game? Does Dynasty Warriors count, for example? I mean, it's like a fighting game with a 3-D arena. If Little Big Planet can count as a sidescroller, even though it also has some foreground-background levels, can't Dynasty Warriors count as a fighting game? Or anything with a real time battle system, like all the FPS?

I'm a fan of the Street Fighter series, specifically the Alpha games. The art and character designs were just gorgeous. In fact, much of Capcom's art in the 90s and early 2000s with Bengus is just great art, period. Even when they were reusing the same sprites from 1994 in games released nearly a decade later, it was Bengus' promotional art that kept me interested. Anyway, some of my favorite Alpha characters are Rose, Rolento, and Adon. Not only are they just great character designs, but each one has a pretty great place in the overall story line, too.

The only fighting games I currently like are Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena and Naruto shippuden games.

Smash Bros has Pit from Kid Icarus and boy is he a kidder. As far as traditional fighting games go I main Giant in Joy Mech Fight on Japanese NSO but that game doesn't give backstories to any character besides Sukapon which is a shame. In BBTAG I really enjoy the combination of Noel Vermillion and Chie Satonaka. Both are really fast and put the pressure on even though I am average at that game. In Rivals of Aether, I enjoy Kragg and Elliana. Kragg feels like a safe fit for me because he is the bulky type with a fairly safe recovery.

Rivals of Aether is my favorite fighting game. It really shows my interest in Melee.
