Which generation, in general, has the best Pokemon designs in your opinion?

My vote goes to Generation 5 (don't hate me!) Because the new Pokemon designs were more detailed, and they also introduced some interesting new type combinations (Ghost+Ground, Bug+Fire etc.)

Please post your reasons down below.

Gen 1 gets my vote. Truthfully I think they just have the better Pokemon. Though in order it's

Gen 1
Gen 3
Gen 2
Gen 4
Gen 5

I don't have Gen 5, but I've seen the Pokemon to know I don't like the designs. At all.

Interestingly enough, since so many people hate on Gen 5 designs, I have to agree with you, Gelivable!

First of all, let's ignore the horrific designs of Gen 3. Gen 3 is the worst overall. Now, in Generation 1, you have an overabundance of similar looking/shaped Pokemon. Also, half of the Pokemon had a gimmick involved in how you evolved them (stone or trade). This does not allow for good balance if you are trying to grind through the game.

Generation 2 had a different kind of unbalance, but mostly because the game was trying to do SOOO MUCH! I love Gen 2, but introducing 2 new types was a heavy load, especially when the games were still trying to balance the type advantage system. Throw into the mix a worthless Unown and the &^%$!@#$ Smeargle, and yeah, I have to say it wasn't the best designed batch of Pokes.

On to Gen 4! It was a good year. Fun times. I played it in Japanese and English. But here's the rub of it, they mostly just added new evolutions. Also, if you didn't pick the fire starter... well, you weren't likely to find another fire type for a long time! Only borrowed fire Pokemon from other Gens. So really, I can't give this one my vote.

Gen 5 was well balanced. They introduced many of my favorite Pokemon and then threw in several others that balanced out types that lacked in numbers from the other Generations. It does a good clean up job. While there are several ugly ones, even they have their purpose with unique typing and capabilities.

What's wrong with Gen 3!?!?

I mean, in terms of gameplay it added a fair amount, but we are talking design and I just found them ugly. Both in how the graphics of the game had not improved enough for my taste, and just general character design. Half are pretty much ripoffs (I know you can say that about all gens, but this was the largest offender).

Like all generations, there are several I love from gen 3, but not enough to redeem it in my eyes.

Generation 1 and 2 are both equal, placing first. Generation 3... Well the only Pokemon from that that's in my favourites is Rayquaza, so nope. Generation 4? Ehhhh. Shaymin's sky form is the only one on the favourites list, so that ties with Generation 3. Generation 5? Well, more on the favourites then 3 or 4, but still just not high enough to catch 1 and 2, and there's only two I can think of right now that I like (Blitzle and Victini).

This is in terms of looks, not of skills, heh.

Gen 4 no doubt about it in first place with Gen 2 in second.
And Gen 5 had amazing graphics and the moving pokemon where long over due but I sent lots of time on Gen 4 and it really grew on me.

I love Gen 5 pokemon, it toook a while though at first I was like "what the f***" and now I'm in love lol. So top Gens for me are 3 and 5. As much as I love gen 1 they seem so dull....grimer, muk, voltorb, and electrode anyone? Lol
