Twitter continues to be our best source for updates on Square Enix's biggest upcoming titles. The Square Enix Members Twitter was updated today with a copule of statements from Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Parasite Eve sequel The 3rd Birthday.
On Agito, Tabata said "Development is progressing well. The reaction was extremely positive when we showed the development version to the producers, management and marketing team in March. The whole staff is excited. We won't be able to show it for a bit, but it's looking like it will become an awesome game."
We've only seen bits and pieces of this third Final Fantasy XIII project (or maybe second, depending on how far along Versus is). Square Enix has showed a number of trailers mixing CG with battle footage, but has yet to provide clear gameplay details.
The 3rd Birthday may be farther along. The game is now in full production mode, said Tabata. "We should have a chance to show it off shortly." He also seems to be excited about this one, saying that the "cream of the crop" development staff is producing a game that will "exceed expectations."
Even compared to Agito, we've seen little of 3rd Birthday. At last year's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix debuted first gameplay footage of the game, but largely hid it behind post processing effects.
It looks like both games will see their full unveil some time this year. The question is, which one will be shown at June's E3 and which one will be held back until September's Tokyo Game Show. Or maybe Square Enix will feel generous and show both at E3.
