The gaming scene in Japan slowed down dramatically for the start of the new year, with a 43% drop in software sales from the week prior. This is to be expected, as everyone is done buying gifts and on their way back to work.
Media Create puts Dissidia Final Fantasy at the top of the sales charts for the week covering 1/5 through 1/11. Since its 12/18 release, Dissidia has taken first place three out of four weeks, losing out just once to White Knight Chronicles.
Here's the full top ten:
* Dissidia Final Fantasy (Square Enix, PSP): 48,675 units
* Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP the Best (Capcom, PSP): 34,191
* Rhythm Heaven (Nintendo, DS): 33,480
* Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii): 29,561
* Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode (Nintendo, DS): 29,433
* White Knight Chronicles (Sony, PS3): 26,495
* Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III (Sony, PS3): 25,440
* Gundam Musou 2 (Bandai Namco, PS2): 25,270
* Kirby Super Star Ultra(Nintendo, DS): 23,409
* Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii): 21,548
Dissidia has now topped the 800,000 mark, putting it over Crisis Core's 788,000 units. It's now the third best selling PSP title ever in Japan and is widely expected to top the million mark.
On the Nintendo side of things, Kirby has now topped the million mark, a feat that took ten weeks. Its predecessor, 2006's Squeak Squad, took 39 weeks to reach the mark.
In hardware, all systems were down dramatically from the prior week, but the ordering remained the same. DSi remained at top, with PSP hot on its tail.
Here's the full hardware list, with last week's sales in parentheses:
* DSi: 78,201 (182,518)
* PSP: 60,495 (157,088)
* Wii: 41,243 (119,965)
* PS3: 28,144 (60,654)
* DS Lite: 23,429 (48,160)
* Xbox 360: 10,554 (19,694)
The low numbers this week are to be expected given the start of the year and the lack of new releases. These numbers will likely continue next week but pick up towards the end of January following a flood of releases.
