EA Sports has changed the FUT chemistry in FIFA 23 a lot. The links are gone – within the new system you can create chemistry even if players of the same club, nation, or league are not directly positioned next to each other. We'll explain what you need to know in the new season and how to get full chemistry.
What an announcement that was! First, leaks swept through the web claiming that chemistry would be completely removed in FIFA 23. Then EA announced: No, it's not like that – but we're changing the entire system. If you're still a little lost on how the whole thing works now, what you should pay attention to and, above all, how to get full chemistry, then you've come to the right place.

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: New Chemistry System Explained
The links between the players are removed. Instead, we have a new system that allows you more variability. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are used as examples in the video. Despite the "distance" on the field, the two create chemistry for you. In the new system, you can then connect your Mbappé with PSG defenders, or other French midfielders.
The three "diamonds," or squares you see on the bottom left of the cards, indicate how well the player fits into your squad. If all diamonds are filled, the player has perfect chemistry. You reach the maximum level with 33 points instead of the previous 100 points. Makes sense because 11 × 3 (every player on max chem) equals 33.
Each club, each league and each nation that is in your starting lineup is listed in a menu on the left. This way, you keep track of who else you could add. But the concept remains the same: the more players from the same club, league or nation in the starting XI, the better your chemistry will be. Players on the bench have no effect on chemistry.
How To Get Full Chemistry In FUT 23
To increase chemistry in FUT 23 you need to pay attention to chem levels. Only players who are lined-up in the correct positions receive chemistry. Here's another example: Joao Cancelo plays both right-back and left-back for Manchester City. So he can also play on both positions in FUT 23. You can find the positions in the player menu. If you see a yellow exclamation mark down left on the player card, you placed him in the wrong position, and he cannot receive or generate chemistry.
How To Get More Chemistry:
-2 players of a club or nation = + 1 chemistry
-3 players of a league = +1 chemistry
-4 players of a club = +2 chemistry
-5 players in a nation or league = +2 chemistry
-7 players of a club = + 3 chemistry
-8 players in a nation or league = +3 chemistry
The small grayed-out player heads on the left are important as well because they show how many more players you have to add to fill the next chemistry square. If at the end of the day you are still missing exactly one square and end up with 32/33 chem, and you are desperate, don't forget the managers/coaches.
Icons, Heroes And Manager
FUT 23 Icons and Heroes keep their special ability to create perfect links. In the new system, they will boost your chemistry significantly if they are used in their correct positions. Icons count as 2 player heads for nations – FUT Heroes as 2 players for the league. Managers count as one player for league and nation.
But it's important to note, Icons do not have a league with which they can create chemistry. So sometimes in FIFA 23 you might even lose chemistry by adding an Icon. So always pay attention to whether Icons really bring you advantages, or whether you should rather use them as super subs.
