I am a huge supporter of fighting games. Though I am nowhere near tournament player status(though I did pretty good in the marvel vs street fighter tourney at I-Con), I enjoy the hell outta playing them with friends. Here are my thoughts on a few series:
Street Fighter: Not bad. I am not a fan of SFII but Alpha, Third Strike, and 4 are very fun to play. My favorite outta all three of those series though has to be Third Strike, it has such style and the fighting engine is so solid and nearly perfect(you do have some broken characters....chun li
). I like Capcom Vs Snk 2 and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom the best when it comes to the crossovers, never liked the marvel counterparts due to lots of balance issues.
King of Fighters: By far my favorite fighting franchise. The whole series in general is SOOO under looked, and it slightly pisses me off. Thanks to the fact that it is under rated, SNK Playmore doesn't make enough money to create a KoF game that can compete with Capcom and the like in today's market. For example, look at KoF12. Great fighting engine and graphics wasted on a game with such little features, characters that just randomly were thrown in there without moves, and horrendous online play. Still waiting on a console release for KoF13 but until then, KoF98' Ultimate Match and KoF2002 Unlimited Match are my favorites in the franchise. Hell KoF2002 has 61 characters, that beats the HELL outta MVC2's roster cuz not only is it more but its also way more balanced and varied.
Mortal Kombat: My least favorite, seriously the only MK I like is Ultimate MK3(own the DS version) and the recent MK9. I still don't consider either one to be true fighting games though, i'll admit that 9 is a lot of silly fun and feels more brawl-ish than street fighter-ish due to it's simplicity.
Blazblue/Guilty Gear: I casually play Guilty Gear but I LOVE Blazblue Continuum Shift. I enjoy the characters, the music, the story, and the funny endings. The fighting engine is so fluid and very fun. I'm waiting on the 3ds version of Continuum Shift 2 and the PS3 version's update.
So what do you guys think about fighting games?
