It's happening, this shit is finally happening! *tries to breathe.*

This probably stole the whole show in my opinion. I personally think the original on PS1 is the most over-rated RPG of all time. I was really disappointed in it's story and characters. Tifa was nothing but T&A fanservice, while cloud was a pretty blank slate (due to storyline reasons involving his memories etc) (but still made him pretty uninteresting).

Still, even though FF7 isn't my idea of the best RPG ever... I'm still excited about this.

I actually really liked Advent Children (movie) because it fleshed out more the backstory and gave some personality and "heart" to a lot of the characters which I felt were empty shells.

I think maybe since it's a remake, they will do a better job, explaining the plot holes and making the characters actually interesting, instead of brainless. I actually really enjoyed Tifa and Cloud in advent children because they seemed more "likeable" from a personality perspective, and I fricken LOVED Rude and Reno, they were hilarious.

I hope they can take the original FF7 story from 1997 and build upon it to create something more emotionally engaging with the audience.

Not mentioned in the above trailer, but it's already been revealed who the key development and staff members are on this project:

This time Final Fantasy 7 is being directed by Tetsuya Nomura who directed and did character design for the Advent Children movie. Because of this, we get a grittier, darker, more realistic world and character designs in the upcoming FF7 Remake. But do not fear, because long time fans can look forward to the return of Yoshinori Kitase and Kazushige Nojima who worked on the original Final Fantasy 7 back on the PS1. They will be handling production and scenario writing, just as they did back in 1997.

Yeah they have also commented saying that they are reworking some areas of things too, not everything will be the exact same story wise etc. I think this is a very good move from them and should help create an even better game.

I just hope this isn't some promo CGI trailer for a simple remake with better textures. I hope they legitimately remake the entire game in a new engine, and maybe a new combat system. The old FF7 combat system was great, but it doesn't seem to appeal to current audiences, which is what Square Enix really needs. Again, I just hope Square Enix doesn't become lazy and rehash the same old game in a new engine, and they make some new improvements.

Well they are doing a direct port as a separate thing as well, so I presume this will be completely reworked and more than just graphical enhancements.

It's already been confirmed that it's not just the graphics that are being changed, but a complete overhaul with new scenarios as well. We don't even know about the gameplay mechanics yet, it may not even follow the turn-based combat formula and use more of an action-adventure type of format.

The development told Gamespot the following yesterday in an interview:

“We’ve announced an HD port version on the PlayStation 4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4,” Nomura said through a translator. “You’ll have this extremely, very, very pretty FFVII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, it’s like, why have the same exact game? Source: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/final-fantasy-7-remake-s-story-could-deviate-from-/1100-6428247/

I think the Remake will be fine. I'm excited for it either way. The original will forever remain one of my all-time favorite JRPGs and I can't even tell you how excited I was to see the lifestream appear on screen. I knew instantly what it was and I was getting excited/nervous because I thought it might just be more info on that crappy port we assumed we were getting. When I saw the graphics, I instantly knew it was the remake and screamed like a little girl :D

Looking forward to this, FF7 was my first JRPG, not my favorite, but it holds sentimental value. I've kinda dropped off the JRPG train since I finished Tales of Abyss and Vesperia, but this might be how I get back in. I'm also looking forward to FF15, the gameplay looks interesting to say the least.

Now about hearing that this game is getting a complete overhaul, that is hype inducing indeed. I look forward to seeing the developer's ideas made flesh and trying it out for myself.

THIS IS AWESOME.

Final Fantasy 7 is one of my favorite games of all time. I had no idea this might happen and went just a little crazy when it was announced. :)

This was my first foray into JRPGs as a kid, so seeing that they're taking this game and making it even better makes me giddy like a schoolgirl as well.  Haha

I was definitely more of a fan of Final Fantasy 8, but 7 was a close second.  I think if they take what they did with Advent Children, add in some other stuff to flesh out the story, and then keep the original but vamp it, it will be a modern classic without a doubt.  I wish they would keep the battle system and material system, but I do agree with Yosostupid that a lot of kids these days will find the system daunting and turn away from the game.

If they give this game a Skyrim-esque feel, I will lose my mind.

I think it's great Square Enix FINALLY gave fans what they've been asking for for almost 10 years running. I woke up the day after E3 thinking it was all a dream. THAT is how unbelievable this announcement was.

I just wish I could have recorded it.

Truth be told, I think this happened SOLELY because Wada is no longer in charge. It's very telling too when you think about it.

He said this couldn't be done. And he's been fighting with Nomura inside the company for years. The day of E3 is the day is official contract with the company expired. And THAT day was the day they showed FF7 remake was coming. Produced by the man he'd been fighting with on it for years.

I won't be too happy yet. This IS stil Square Enix. Even with Wada no longer at the helm, they still have to prove they can start giving the fans what they want not just in game announcements, but in QUALITY of said games. This is one HELL of a start though

You know it's serious when people are already placing pre orders on a game that isn't even remotely close to release. Seriously, go look at amazon right now. People are preordering the heck out of this game.

If I believed in pre orders I'd do it too lol. But needless to say, I WILL be buying this game. I just hope they make some sort of collector edition.

looked into this and seems to be right, thanks for sharing it!

So after all the showing it too people. Making us whine. Making us beg. Making us hope. They finally listen to us.

We've been asking for this before Final Fantasy 13 was even starting development. One can only assume that they saw their bottom lines and said " maybe it's about time we give people what they want".
