In partnership with Japanese social developer DeNA, Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy social game for Japan. Few details are available, but according to Andriasang, the game will be "an RPG where you fight for your friends."
Japanese gamers will be able to register for the game starting today, and Gamasutra reports that special content for the social game will be available for players who purchase Final Fantasy Type-0. DeNA will be developing the game "using familiar characters from Square Enix's Final Fantasy series."
The game is headed to DeNA's Mobage platform, Japan's largest mobile social gaming platform with over 30 million users. Games from franchises including Harvest Moon, No More Heroes and Namco's Tales series are also in development. Mobage is available for iPhone and Android and recently launched in the U.S., but it isn't clear which games will only be available in Japan and which will make it overseas.
Square Enix has previously ventured into social territory with Chocobo's Crystal Tower and Knights of the Crystals on Facebook, but this will be the company's first social game using the Final Fantasy name. The game is set to be released in Japan this winter.
