The good news, Final Fantasy XIII fans, is that all of Square Enix's efforts are being put toward your game. The bad news, Final Fantasy Versus XIII fans, is that the FF XIII effort is at your expense.

Tetsuya Nomura, director of Versus, broke the news in the latest issue of Famitsu, according to PS3fanboy.com The issue hits Japanese newsstands Friday, and in it, Nomura goes on to say that Versus team is now helping put together FF XIII. Both games will be at Square Enix's August party -- although they reportedly won't be playable. Apparently, Nomura "hints" in the Famitsu article that more info will be revealed in October at Tokyo Game Show.

surprising update:

Yesterday, the interwebs brought word that the latest issue of Famitsu had an interview that stated Final Fantasy Versus XIII was being put on hold so that the team could finish Final Fantasy XIII.

Square Enix says that's not the case.

"Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false," a company statement sent to Eurogamer says. "The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."

The issue of Famitsu in question hits newsstands on Friday and features the interview with Tetsuya Nomura, director of Versus. We'll have more for you when the article is officially out in the open.
